On the same morning another lorry load of aid leaves Ballycastle and the Glens for Calais, Greece and beyond to support fellow human beings in plight, those who would join in the fight for humanity had to endure a racist attack on their church premises in Coleraine

Refugees making their way across Europe from Syria, escaping the West’s brutal intervention in the internal affairs of another Nation State, are the upwardly mobile, third level educated, young, articulate, intelligent and like anyone in a similar situation, are desperate to survive.

On the other hand, those who placed graffiti on the walls of the Salvation Army centre on the Ballycastle Road, Coleraine, are a lot further down the evolutionary tree. They have a supremacist ideology carved from generations of anti-catholic sectarianism. It is no surprise to see a mural to UDA TEENAGER William Campbell shadowing the latest Racist graffiti along the banks of the Bann. 19 year old Campbell blew himself up while in the process of attempting to kill catholics in the Coleraine area.

The UDA, who sponsored the placing of the disgusting graffiti on the Church property, enjoyed links to like minded far right groups including COMBAT 18, the National Front and more recently, Britain First.

Coleraine has had a chapter of the National Front since the 70’s. It has been allowed to grow and flourish among the poorly educated, loyalist communities that senior Unionist politicians court for votes. It is that link that allows much of the hate to be airbrushed and is the chief reason why the Loyalist tail can be seen wagging the Unionist dog.

The Executive are at the cutting edge of a class war against the most vulnerable in our society

ALL Parties to the Executive supported cuts.

ALL Parties to the Executive supported cuts.

Moyle Independent Councillor Padraig McShane challenged local representatives from the DUP, SDLP, UUP and SF to define their positions on health. He said that local Councillors were shedding crocodile tears at the behest of their leadership who all endorsed slashing £44million from the Northern Trust Health budget between 2008 and 2011. He claimed the cuts to Health Care budgets continue unabated.

The Councillor said;

“The attacks we witnessed on Residential Care Homes last week had been instigated in 2009 following massive cuts in Health. The Executive created the on-going and systemic cuts to health. In 2009 Sinn Fein, the SDLP and the DUP rejected a proposal from the Health Unions to protect and ring-fence Health Care budgets. Why?

“The Executive are at the cutting edge of a class war against the most vulnerable in our society. Those parties who espouse Socialist values are in fact delivering right wing Tory led cuts. Socialism and class struggle are not merely defined as, or can ever be reduced to economics by itself. It must be used to enhance and preserve the Services we see the parties of the Executive categorically oppose, namely Housing, Health, Welfare, Education and Justice.

The Councillor also said it was embarrassing to watch other Councillors speak of ‘climb downs’ and welcome Minister Poots U-turn on Friday.

“Nothing changed after Poots announcement. Residential Care remains under attack from the Executive and the news that Day Care and Resource centre in Ballycastle are earmarked for closure will surprise no one. The multi millions removed from Health in the Northern Trust were not replaced. How could anyone in their right minds gloat about this like it was some form of victory?”

The ‘Red Baron’ Councillor and illegal Claims for Diesel

Let me make this clear, I would never complain about someone using fuel that could be deemed illegal in their vehicle. The only crimes I can identify relating to fuel is the price, the cartels that control the price and of course, the criminals who engage their poor and downtrodden in illegal wars to gain control of the commodity in the first place.

That said; when we hold public office and claim from the public purse (ratepayer) for “out of pocket” expenses for mileage, we do so in the knowledge that we are being remunerated for the costs associated with legal fuel (rather than the cheaper red) in our vehicles. To run a vehicle on illegal (red) diesel fuel and to ask the ratepayer to reimburse over the odds is almost akin to theft.

A Landrover Defender was stopped on the Carnbore Road, Bushmills and by police and then seized by Customs during a Road Fuel operation on the 24th of April. The vehicle belongs to Councillor Willie Graham. The Councillor has been consistently one of the highest claimers of expenses in Moyle.

I am calling for Councillor Graham to “return integrity to Moyle and resign immediately”.

“Councillor Graham has claimed a staggering twelve thousand pounds of rate payers’ money on mileage over the last three financial years. The rate payer will want to know how long vehicles belonging to Councillor Graham have been using illegal fuel. Is Councillor Graham going to return these funds to the public purse and do the honourable thing and resign?

“We have seen public confidence in elected representatives evaporate after the MPs expenses scandal. Dail Erinann with its culture of brown envelopes has had a similar impact on the faith of the public in the South. The Ulster Unionist Party must now do the right thing and replace Councillor Graham. The ratepayers trust is at stake”.

Its now over to the ‘Red Baron’ and the UUP.
