Another serious road accident has occurred on an accident black spot on the Cushendall Road less than a week after an Independent Councillor called for the installation of safety barriers at the location.
The two car accident witnessed both cars leave the road. One continued down a steep embankment coming to rest some ninty feet below the carriageway. The fire brigade had to remove a female driver from the car which came to rest on its roof. She was taken by ambulance to Coleraine Hospital in a serious though not life threatening condition.
Moyle Independent Councillor Padraig Mc Shane had called on the Council to write to Road Service just a week prior to the accident requesting the installation of safety barriers. He said at the time:
“I have serious concerns about the contours of the road and the dangers inherent therein to road users. A steep drop exists on one side and given the high number of accidents I’m afraid it may only be a matter of time before we are looking at a fatality at this location”.
Council had agreed to Councillor Mc Shane’s request and he is now calling for the immediate installation of the safety system.
