Staff in the Ballycastle Branch of First Trust has been informed that the Bank will close in November. It is one of three local Branches earmarked for closure in the North.
Ireland‘s beleaguered financial institution Allied Irish Banks has announced the closure of almost 70 branches in Ireland. First Trust is its Northern subsidiary and has three to four earmarked for closure.
Moyle Independent Councillor Padraig Mc Shane who banks with the local branch of the First Trust in Ballycastle said;
“First Trust generated a substantial amount of business since coming to Ballycastle. The removal of the branch in the town will have a devastating impact on those who placed their faith in the Bank.
“The out working of the unregulated and rampant corporate greed that has been the hallmark of the Banking System on this island was the only factor to bring the devastating decision to bear on customers in Ballycastle.
“Small businesses along with individual customers will be those most affected. It is a decision based solely on financial implications for the bank over and above the need of their faithful customers.”
